HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania schools could soon be required to ban student cellphone use during the school day. TribLive is reporting, the state House passed a bipartisan “bell-to-bell” restriction .
The bill would require districts to create policies banning cellphone use from the first bell to the last. Supporters say phones are hurting student mental health, academics, and safety.
The bill includes exceptions for medical needs, approved educational use and language translation. It now goes to the Republican-controlled state Senate, which previously passed similar legislation.
Some lawmakers opposed the bill, citing concerns about cost and emergency communication. The House vote was 126-75.
