ALMEDIA — A mobile home fire in Almedia Sunday afternoon sent residents scrambling to save pets as flames spread quickly. The Press Enterprise reports, the fire broke out around 3pm at 230 Price Street, where Press Enterprise reports five cats, three dogs, and several reptiles were rescued.
Residents told the newspaper, one black-and-white cat, named Boots, broke free and ran back toward the burning home. Laura Straub knelt outside, calling for the cat, but there was no word on its fate as of press time.
Straub’s fiancé, Justin Reisch, says frozen pipes led them to use torpedo heaters, a routine they followed for years. He says insulation may have ignited beneath the floor, causing flames to spread rapidly..
