SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — State police say a man was shot and killed by troopers during a response in South Williamsport. Troopers say they assisted South Williamsport police at a home on the 700 block of Fairmont Avenue. They say the call involved a reported terroristic threat.
Authorities say 49-year-old Michael Hughes was threatening to shoot someone and they were invited inside the home and made contact with Hughes. State police say Hughes had a weapon, shots were fired, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say no troopers or civilians were injured. Troopers involved were placed on administrative leave, per policy. The Lycoming County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting.
