WILLIAMSPORT — State leaders are encouraging Pennsylvanians to get their annual flu vaccine as respiratory virus season begins. Lt. Governor Austin Davis, Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen, and Insurance Commissioner Michael Humphreys visited River Valley Health to highlight the importance of vaccination.
Officials said most insurance plans cover the flu shot at no cost, and free options are available for children and the uninsured.
Last flu season, Pennsylvania recorded more than 234,000 cases, 40,000 hospitalizations, and over 1,000 deaths. Health experts say vaccination remains the best protection.
