In October of 2003, Joe was
appointed President of Sunbury Media Services, a division of
Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation. Joe has been with Sunbury
Broadcasting Corporation since 1978 having served as the
corporation's President, and earlier as Executive Vice-President
and General Manager. Prior to 1978 Joe served as Vice-President
& General Manager of WHJB-AM/WOKU-FM in the Pittsburgh Market
and earlier as General Manager of WCBG-AM in Chambersburg. Joe
began his radio career in 1961 as an announcer/news reporter for
WKBO in Harrisburg, PA.
Joe has made an impact in the community throughout his radio
career. He served twenty-four years as an elected Councilman,
four in Chambersburg and twenty years (twelve as Council
President) in Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania. . An active Rotarian
since 1978, Joe was elected president of the Sunbury Rotary Club
in 1992. The Central Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce
presented Joe with the "1992 Outstanding Leadership Award" and
it’s successor, the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of
Commerce, presented him with the 2002 “Star Of Excellence Award”
as the outstanding Chamber volunteer. Joe was the Chamber's
president in 1987 and 1988 and is finishing his twenty-fifth
year as the Chairman of Governmental Affairs. Joe served as
President of the Susquehanna Industrial Development Corporation
from 1989 to 1994 and also chairs the Central Susquehanna
Thruway Task Force, comprised of elected officials and community
volunteers working to secure funding for a much needed by-pass
project. He has testified before a committee of the United
States House of Representatives and before numerous Pennsylania
House and Senate Committees representing the business community
of the Susquehanna Valley.
A leader in the broadcasting industry, Joe has served as
chairman of the Joint Radio/Television Board of Directors for
the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters and for five years
as chairman of the Radio Board of Directors. During his tenure
as Joint Board Chairman, the association created it’s “Hall of
Fame” at Penn State University. The Association name Joe "1994
Pennsylvania Broadcaster of The Year."
