Dr. Furia graduated from Brown, with a BS in Neural Science. He earned his MD from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Sports Medicine Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. 

Along with his report on Drew and the Crew, Dr. Furia serves as the Director of Sports Medicine at Evangelical Community Hospital and he assists at SUN Orthopedic and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Furia served as the team physician at the amateur and professional level since 1990. He has served as the team physician for:  Bucknell and Rochester Universities, Houston Oilers, Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Rochester Americans (AHL Hockey), US Amateur Boxing and at the high school level with
Americans (AHL Hockey), US Amateur

Boxing and at the high school level with Westbury and Greece-Olympia's football teams.

Dr. Furia has also been very active in sports as a participant. He was a three-year varsity wrestler at Brown University in 1981, 1982 and 1985. Dr. Furia was the Intramural Wrestling Champion at Vanderbilt University in 1986 and 1987.
