I grew up an only child.
That meant I got just about anything I wanted. Now my punishment is
having an only child as a son! My family lived outside of
Orangeville in Columbia County. A suburb of Orangeville if you will.
I'd tell you about my childhood but as an only child (and living
miles from my friends) I became my own best friend and played a ton
of video games. And still do! (I'm a PS2 junkie) Growing up I
enjoyed watching football, baseball and became quite a fan of sports
in general. I've played high school football and in my even younger
years Little League Baseball. Football had to by my favorite and by
looking at my links, Penn State and the Pittsburgh Steelers are my
teams. Now don't think I just jumped on the 70's Steelers bandwagon.
My Aunt lives in Pittsburgh and she's the reason I became a Steelers
fan. I was a Pirates fan in the 70's as well (We Are Family!), but
my friends were all Phillies Phans. I ended up jumping on THAT
bandwagon and have been a fan since the 80's.
Radio was something that always interested me. Especially turning
the sound down on the television and doing play-by-play for Steelers
games. I enjoyed the fact that someone is listening to me describe
the game for them. That's why I started in radio in the late 80's at
a local station doing Sunday morning sports and whatever I could to
learn about the business. My first sporting event job was in 1990
with a station in Benton. I reported the morning news and color
commentary for football and basketball in the evening. In 1992, I
tried my hand at television (WLYN in Berwick and Hazelton). It was a
great experience but you didn't really have to describe anything.
The camera did it for you. From there I reported sports for
newspaper and worked part-time at WKOK. August of 1993 was a turning
point for me. I became the night personality at WKOK. From that
point on I have been blessed with many career opportunities here at
the Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation, including my first stint at
play-by-play sports. That has brought me the opportunity to get back
into television calling football games for Service Electric
Cablevision.
I
currently serve on Sunbury River Festival Committee, member of the
Pawling Station Marketing Committee, as board member
of the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association, a
member of Sunbury Revitalization Incorporated, Sunbury Pride And
Renaissance Coalition, a Cubmaster for Pack 30 in Danville, a
Danville Little League Umpire,
, and I'm a 2004
graduate of Leadership Susquehanna Valley.
As
I mentioned before, I have a son. He was born in February of 1999
and that was the moment I felt I had to grow up! Ok, grow up a bit!
Daniel is way too much like me...my mother warned me about this. He
loves baseball, football and soccer (that's a sport I need to learn
more about now). At three, he could chant "We Are....Penn State" and
"Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go!.....THAT'S MY BOY! My wife Rebekah
and I were married in 1993. If you need proof that opposites
attract, just look at us. She's a bit shy and me, well you can
guess. As a matter of fact, it's a wonder we even get along with so
much opposite but it works. We live in Danville with Daniel, a cat
name "Tiggy", and a dog named "Jesse".
